Sync & vaults

Vaults

A vault is a self-contained collection of notes, entities, and schemas. Locally, your vault lives in IndexedDB. With Sync turned on, the same vault is mirrored to a content-addressed blob store keyed by the SHA-256 of each markdown file.

What syncs

Everything that exists locally is exported as markdown and synced:

  • Notes (with their frontmatter, body, and inline references)
  • Entities and entity schemas
  • Date references
  • Bookmarks and reminders

Derived stores like the entity-mention index are not synced — they're rebuilt from the markdown on every device after pull.

Conflicts

Sync uses CRDT-friendly merging at the markdown level. If two devices edit the same note while offline, both versions are preserved and surfaced in the Conflicts view for you to merge by hand.

Privacy

Markdown blobs are encrypted at rest with SSE-S3. End-to-end encryption is on the roadmap.
